Goals
There were seven goals in the design of the Thummer musical instrument. These ideas were meant to create a platform where future musicians could continue to develop the instrument long after the initial creation.
Easiness - The instrument had to be easy to learn and play, both in composition and in performance settings.
Expression - The Thummer should have a greater expressive range than traditional instruments.
Comfort - In playing the Thummer, a person should not need to physically strain their body.
Closeness - All of the notes should be in easy reach, with only one fingering setting.
Dynamic - The instrument should be able to play all known music and create a foundation for new types of music with new invented sounds.
Portable - The Thummer should be easy to transport and set up for maximum portability.
Accessible - Everyone should be able to have affordable access to the Thummer.
